It's confirmed, nothing will be allowed in several dozen kilometers and F-18s in strategic Spanish bases are on and ready to take off the very second they detect anything.

That's really gross. It will *NEVER EVER* happen in the honorable Monarchy. I'd rather have fidel castro than such degeneration of Royalty.

Thanks! Don't worry about that, divorce is not allowed nor desired there. Besides, they marry for love, that's for sure. Letizia didn't have any nobility title; the Queen was reluctant because of this at first, which proves it's not an arranged marriage. And if Letizia was accepted by the Queen, she must be a wonderful person. The Queen was really strict with his relations and always wanted the very best and only the best for the Prince, so I would trust my life to anybody the Queen smiles to. The King didn't oppose at all, he always wanted his son to marry in love so he's very happy.

In a constitutional Monarchy, they have several functions, although in Spain their power has been reduced too much for my taste. Some of their most important functions are:
<ul type="square">[*]Guarantee and enforce the constitution.[*]Act as a framework for democracy; control it to prevent coups, faked elections, or excess in time and power of a government. Able to suspend a government and and call new elections if necessary.[*]Sign urgent laws proposed by the government when there's no time to debate them (so express laws cannot be dictated at the current government's will; they must be approved first).[*]Represent the State outside Spain much better than a mere president or prime minister (because they are not subject to democracy; they are the permanent image of the kingdom and the global ambassadors and public relations of the kingdom).[*]Help international relations.[*]Influence and give advice to the government in important matters of general interest for the people.[*]Give speeches.[*]Attract tourism.[*]Act in official ceremonies.[*]Represent the head of the army.[*]Give example of honesty and excellence.[*]Maintain a noble, legendary, honorable tradition only kingdoms have. An historic element we are very proud to have. Simple elected presidents don't look nearly as good as Royalty.[/list]The Monarchy is Spain's most valued institution, even above the church. Even among the Spanish catholics, they are more influential than the Pope. What the King and Queen say and support have a deep impact on things, and their subtle work keeps everything working and makes democracy much less corrupt. Just take a look at history; Spain was a total, absolute, utter piece of crap when it was a republic, and had up to 6 presidents a year (!) because it was so hopelessly screwed up and nasty. That's what happens to a kingdom when you remove the heart and spirit of it. I hope everybody learnt the lesson, republic in Spain is nasty, and a way to screw ourselves. Anybody wanting a republic is either utterly ignorant, or an evil, corrupt person who wants to take advantage of something like that.

One of the best pros of Monarchy is that it's not subject to elections. You don't get your Mr. Joe Average 4-year president. The Monarchy is a stable, reliable institution that will be always there for you. Corruption is just impossible, because they don't need to struggle to stay in power, nor they could possibly need any more than they already have. They are above business, above elections, and above everything that could get nasty. They can't be biased, because they don't belong ?can't belong? to any party, business, or organization. So they are a reference and a honesty framework for democracy and everything else. Besides, a King and a Queen have over 25 years of study, a vast knowledge of the world and its cultures and leaders, and half a century of experience on the kingdom and its affairs (which they get while being Prince and Princess), while a mere president has a graduate like anybody else could get and whatever experience he/she may get while he/she gets voted, starting with 0 years.

IMO, the constitution should be modified to grant even more power to the Royalty. Because of the reasons I have explained, no person in the world is more qualified for their job. I'd rather have my King and Queen ruling, than the best president ever. I think I'd make it 50/50 Monarchy and democracy.
